Site Visit: JW Marriott Miami

CL3

The 274-room, 22-suite JW Marriott Miami, the first JW franchisee in the world, has an enviable Brickell Avenue address in the heart of the city’s financial district, making it a sought-after venue for meetings. “We’re a prime location for convenience to the many Miami attractions and cultural offerings,” says Alberto Najar, director of sales and marketing for the property. “We have easy access through downtown’s Metromover, across the street from the hotel, to Perez Art Museum; American Airlines Arena, home to the Miami Heat; Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts; and area shopping. We’re also less than 30 minutes from both the airport and the beach.” As the only Brickell-area hotel exclusive of residential units, it was recently recognized as one of the world’s best business hotels by Travel + Leisure.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, the hotel underwent extensive room renovations in 2013. Its elegant lobby is replete with Ralph Lauren signature furnishings, as are the upgraded concierge floor suites, most with walk-in closets, 42-inch HDTVs, large bathrooms with televisions-in-mirrors, and stunning city or bay views. The 1,600-sq.-ft. presidential suite has separate dining and living areas, a private lounge, soundproof windows and access to an adjoining room for security. The hotel’s 18 event rooms occupy 24,000 square feet of total meeting space, including three concierge floors, and two 14-by-8-ft. high-definition video walls display custom feeds at events. “Business guests love seeing live-streamed sporting events such as the Super Bowl or World Cup live on our lobby wall,” says Macarena Sepulveda, director of catering. “The second screen in our event space lobby allows for live-streamed presentations, custom videos and real-time photo slideshows from event activities.”

The 4,000-sq.-ft. pool deck recently played host to a safari-themed evening for a corporate group of 150, where trainer-accompanied live animals including a fox, snakes, a lynx, lemurs and even an alligator were brought in to interact with guests. Another company hosted a colorfully lit reception near the pool with a “Miami Nights” theme, complete with a live Cuban music trio and Cuban-inspired bites and cocktails.
